Mintek: Bursary 2015

The aim of Mintek’s Undergraduate Bursary Programme is primarily to ensure a steady supply of trained and highly skilled technical people to meet a major portion of Mintek’s operational, research, and development manpower intake needs, and also to provide appropriately-skilled graduates to the broader South African minerals and metallurgy sector, as per Mintek’s Mission Statement.

Qualifications For Bursary

Mintek has a strong interest in students who intend to pursue / are currently pursuing undergraduate degrees, honors degrees or B.Tech diplomas in the following fields:

Chemistry (Analytical or Geochemistry)

Chemical Engineering (Minerals Processing option)

Electrical Engineering (Process Control Systems or Electronics)

Geology (majoring in Mineralogy, Petrology, Applied Geology or Economic Geology)

Mathematics

Mechanical Engineering

Mining Engineering

Physical Metallurgy / Materials Science

Physics

Unfortunately Mintek does not provide bursaries to students studying towards their National Diplomas or students at year one (first year) of their study programme.

Requirements For Bursary

At University currently: Studying towards any of the above-mentioned degrees with an overall average of 60% and no failed courses or subjects.

Must be a South African citizen.

Must meet the university entry requirements and be accepted at a recognized South African university for full-time studies.

Postgraduate Bursary Programme

Mintek’s Postgraduate Bursary Programme further equips undergraduates through the development of research methodology skills at the Masters level, followed by the generation of original research that contributes new knowledge to a field at the Doctoral level.

Qualifications For Bursary

Mintek has a strong interest in students who intend to pursue / are currently pursuing postgraduate degrees or diplomas in the following fields:

Catalysis

Chemistry (Analytical or Geochemistry)

Extractive Metallurgy (Pyrometallurgy or Hydrometallurgy, including Bio- hydrometallurgy)

Fuel Cells

Geology (Mineralogy, Petrology, Applied Geology or Economic Geology)

Mechanical Engineering

Minerals Processing

Mining Engineering

Mining-Focused Environmental Compliance

Nanoscience and Nanotechnology

Physical Metallurgy

Physics

Precious Metal-Based drug Discovery

Process Control Systems or Electronics (Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering)

Requirements For Bursary

Studying towards any of the fields above with an overall average of 60% and no failed courses or subjects.

Must be a South African citizen.

Must meet the university entry requirements and be accepted at a recognised South African university as a full-time student.

A detailed outline (approx. 500 words) of your proposed research project. If you have not decided on a specific research project, give a general outline of you intended field of study.

A recommendation (approx. 500 words) from your university supervisor, including his / her assessment of your academic achievements, your capabilities as a researcher and your proposed research project.
