A FORMER Port Shepstone Secondary pupil received a Shoprite study bursary of R70 000 towards her first year at Rhodes University.

Jeralyn Pillay (18), from Oslo Beach, said she is grateful for the chance to study towards a B. Pharm degree, which has been her childhood dream.

“Obtaining the bursary from Shoprite is a blessing for my parents as they will also have to pay for my brother’s tertiary education soon. It will provide great financial relief for my parents who have progressed from humble beginnings,” said Jeralyn.

She said her parents have always been her inspiration and taught her that hard work and dedication held the key to success.

Her father Eric said having a stable income and saving over the years didn’t put them in a financial position that would allow them to pay for Jeralyn’s studies.

“I have been with the Shoprite Group for 20 years and hearing that Jeralyn received a study bursary was the best news and brought us to tears.

“She is a bright and intelligent girl and this means the world to us. From the bottom of our hearts, we humbly thank Shoprite for doing this for our daughter.”

The Shoprite Group has already awarded 193 tertiary study bursaries to deserving candidates for the 2016 academic year. – Supplied.
