Women march against virgin bursaries

A large crowd of women and even children marched through town this morning (Friday) in support of the “virgin bursaries”.

This after uThukela Mayor Dudu Mazibuko granted 16 virgins bursaries to study at university. Ladysmith made news headlines worldwide as a result.

The march started at Settlers Park and ended at the Town Hall, where a memorandum was handed over to municipal officials.

“We are definitely happy about the virgin bursaries, as this is a feather in the cap of every woman,” said one of the marchers.
