Trudon Offers Bursaries to IT, Multimedia and Digital Media Students

Trudon Bursaries 2015

Trudon, the company that publishes South Africa’s Yellow Pages, is offering bursaries to IT and various design and media-related students who are currently studying for undergraduate degrees. The closing date is October 31, 2014.

Bursaries are open to:

  • Trudon employees who have worked for the company for more than 12 months.

  • The children of Trudon employees.

  • Previously disadvantaged external candidates who do not have existing links with the company.

The company also has a graduate programme that gives successful students who have participated in their bursary programme “a potential career start”. This involves external candidates working for Trudon for a year after graduation. In addition they offer “study funding” to employees who want to increase their knowledge and “expand their horizons”.

Job opportunities are also available on an ongoing basis.

Anyone who is successful in their bursary application will have both registration fees and tuition fees covered. They will receive a book allowance, and where applicable residence fees may be coverd.

SETA Backing

The Media Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (Mict SETA) is responsible for the skills development and accreditation standards set for all providers of education and training for the following sectors:

  • Advertising

  • Electronic media and film

  • Electronics

  • Information technology (IT)

  • Telecommunications

The Trudon Mission as an Employer

Trudon actively looks for “new media talent” and in return they can offer a dynamic and exciting work environment as well as substantial funding that will help learners in this field further their studies and complete their tertiary education.

From initially being an well-established and reputable print-media organisation, Trudon is now a leading multimedia company, opening the door to people with skills in this new work arena. Career opportunities the company offers spans a range of related areas including accounting, customer care, human resources, logistics, marketing and sales. Their focus though is on ecommerce, information management, multimedia design and what they term “online and search”.

Once in the employ of Truton, people are invited to write their won “career scripts”. And this is where the internal bursaries come in.

Undergraduate Degrees that Qualify Students

Second and third year students who are aiming for a degree in the following fields may apply for a bursary:

  • IT management, information management, economics and econometrics, or informatics

  • Informatics and computer science, or IT

  • Digital media studies

  • Multimedia design

The specific bachelor degrees covered are Information Science (in multimedia and publishing) and Graphic Design.

Applicants must have achieved an overall minimum result of 60 percent, and also a minimum 60 percent pass in their major subjects. This will apply to first year results for those applying for second year studies, and to second year results for those applying for funds for third year studies.

While all applications are decided on “merit”, Trudon does point out that it will give African, Coloured and Indian students preference.

For Those Who Qualify

Academic performance is important and the company reviews the situation after examinations, and bursaries are renewed annually.

Once a student has graduated, he or she must work for Trudon for a year. This does not include in-service periods of training. In the event of a graduate refusing to accept the employment contract, all money outlaid for study fees will have to be repaid.

Application forms are available from Trudon online

Side Note: cire trudon should not be confused with trudon South Africa, Trudin South African is the official reseller of advertising space for telkom’s yellow pages. cire trudon (cire trudon candles) is a french company who manufacture candles.

Social Work Scholarships Available for Study Next Year

Social Work Scholarships 2015

Applications for 2015 scholarships are open for social work students and matriculants who are planning to enrol for a social work degree at university next year. So if you aspire to become a social worker, and you need some kind of bursary to get you through your studies, then don’t miss this opportunity. The closing date for applications is October 31, 2014.

Social Work is a Calling

One of the most important notifications in the social work Scholarship for Social Work Student Guide 2015 released by the National Department of Social Development, as programme manager of the Scholarship Programme, Moqeloa Mothopeng, points out, is that social work is a calling rather than just a profession. For this reason the department only want students who “REALLY want to pursue this noble profession” to apply for the social work scholarships that are currently available.

They stress that they really do want people who are “very passionate” about social work to apply. They also stress that they want students who will be happy to help in disadvantaged communities, “with all their problems regardless where they are.” Most of these communities are, nor surprisingly, in rural areas.

The social work profession falls under the SsdSETA that was established to incorporate all welfare-related sub-sectors in 2011. This makes it one of the newer SETAs in South Africa, representing the welfare sector that was previously part of a broader body, the Health and Welfare Sector Education and Training Authority (HWSETA).

What Social Work Scholarships Cover

The scholarships on offer for 2015 will cover registration costs, tuition fees, cost of books prescribed for the courses, and stipends for practical exams. If accommodation is provided by the applicants’ universities of choice, accommodation costs might be included in the scholarship.

The Department has a very clear policy in terms of how and when they pay. For example, when learners who get social work scholarships buy books, each and every item needs to be specified. Only prescribed books and other study material will be covered. They also only pay out “appropriate expenses” and will not ever pay students money that could have, but hasn’t, been used. Full study fees are paid after April in the relevant year (in this case April 2015).

The Departmental guide also draws attention to the fact that successful applicants cannot change their field of study once they have been accepted.

Important Details Required

In general, those who are applying for social work scholarships must be SA citizens and be happy to enter into an agreement with the Department. That’s about it… though of course all the necessary paperwork must be supplied – certified copies of Matric results, ID document, parent or guardian’s proof of income, academic record to date, and so on – and all entry requirements from the university must be complied with. All requirements are clearly laid out by the Department of Social Development.

Admission to University

Even though students are applying for scholarships, the Department emphasizes that it is imperative for them to apply to their university of choice for admission in due time. To help they have given a full list of relevant institutions throughout the country, together with names, contact details, and email information of heads of departments.

They have also provided information that will help prospective applicants get more information from provincial representatives in every province.

The Department also provides information that will help students explore additional financial assistance opportunities.

So you want to be a social worker and you need a bursary? What are you waiting for?

Where to find the Application Form.

The National Department of Social Development has released it’s student guidelines for social work scholarships; they are available for download from their website.

Capetonians Offered Tertiary Study Bursaries by the City of Cape Town

The City of  Cape Town Tertiary Study Bursaries

The City of Cape Town is offering bursaries to men and women of all race groups who are planning to study at approved tertiary institutions next year (2015). The City is of course the local authority that administers the greater Cape Town area, and has jobs available in a wide range of fields.

The fields of study that qualify are specific but incredibly varied, ranging from City, Town and Regional Planning, Building Development, and various areas of Civil and Electrical Engineering, to Agricultural Economics, Entrepreneurship, Information Systems (B Com), Pharmacy, Nursing, Social Work and Library and Information Science. In total there are more than 40 fields of study listed, which will be an invaluable aid in ultimately finding a job. Further, the tertiary study bursaries relate to virtually all South Africa’s Skills Education Training Authorities (SETAs) – which shows just how fantastic these opportunities are.

To qualify, students must live in the greater Cape metropolitan area and be planning to register in one of the listed fields of study.

According to the City’s announcement made on Friday October 3, 2104, the tertiary study bursaries are available to students who are registering for undergraduate, postgraduate degree or diploma studies. The bursaries will cover registration as well as examination and class fees levied by the various institutions.

If you think you might qualify and be approved for a bursary, then it is important to act quickly as the closing date for applications is October 24th. Late applications do not get any consideration.

Application forms are available online (Application Form) or from various municipal offices including:

  • Belville Municipal Building
  • Brackenfell Municipal Office
  • Cape Town Human Resources Employment Counter in the Civic Centre
  • Helderberg Municipal Office in Strand
  • Parow Municipal Building
  • South Peninsula Municipal Office in Plumstead

What the City Wants to Know About Applicants for Tertiary Study Bursaries

All applications have to be completed in the writing, by the person applying for the bursary.

Each applicant must state which field of study they are applying for, and these must be on the City’s list of approved studies. The duration of the course must be specified as well as the educational institution chosen, and number of years the bursary will be required.

The usual personal information is required, including date of birth, ID number, place of residence and so on. Information about gender, race and any disabilities is required so that the City can monitor equity.

Information about “household circumstances” is required, and certified documentary proof has to be supplied in terms of the gross annual income of the household. Someone is also required to stand surety for the student’s bursary, and a certified copy of this person’s ID must also be provided.

Of course since this is a bursary application, detailed educational information is also required – together with proof of results and registration, if the applicant is already studying at a recognized institution.

As an applicant you will also be asked if you have ever received a bursary before, and whether there are any bursary commitments that are outstanding. You will be asked to list extra-mural activities, hobbies and sports that you participate in and to give information about your involvement in the local community.

You will be asked to state why you are choosing a particular field of study and specify the personal qualities that you believe are necessary to be successful in your chosen field.
Contact details of two tutors, teachers or lecturers who know the applicant well are also required so that the City can phone and get the required references.

Tertiary Study Bursaries Will be Awarded Before the End of 2014

While the City of Cape Town does not acknowledge receipt of applications for tertiary study bursaries, they do undertake to notify successful applicants by December 19th. They also have a telephone enquiry service and Employment Service Desk. Telephone numbers are on the City’s website.

Don’t delay apply today.

The South African Weather Service Has Bursaries for 2015

The South African Weather Service Bursary.

Matriculants and graduates who meet the SA Weather Service requirements have been invited to apply for bursaries for 2015. Application Form. There are four areas of study, and all applications must be submitted by October 21st 2014. Successful applications will know within a month if their applications have been accepted.

The South African Weather Service provides information about general weather forecasts as well as shipping and aviation forecasts. They give weather warnings, make observations, and provide general climate information. The jobs the Service offers relate directly to the study areas that they are encouraging.

The areas of study are:
• Weather observations
• Meteorology
• Science
• Weather forecasting

Weather Observations Bursaries for 2015

Bursaries that provide ten months training in weather observation at the South African Weather Service Meteorological Training Institute in Pretoria are available to students who have a Matric (Grade 12) certificate with E symbols or higher in both physical science and mathematics (not just maths literacy).
Studies will begin in February next year (2015) and training will be in all the various aspects of weather observation. These are specified in the requirements for the South African National Certificate in Weather Observation (SAQA QUAL ID no 58995).

Once training is complete there will be the possibility of employment at a Weather Service regional office. These are in Calvinia, Cape Town, De Aar, Ermelo, George, Irene, Kimberley, OR Thambo, Port Elizabeth, and Upington.

Any candidates hoping for employment should be aware that it will involve shift work and one of the employment requirements is a valid driving license. If you are planning to apply for a bursary, and don’t have a driver’s license, you will need to get one at your own cost before the end of next year.

In it’s advertisement for bursaries for 2015, the SA Weather Service points out that it is “an equal opportunity employer”, and that it will give preference to women and people from “previously disadvantaged” communities.
All applicants will be expected to provide a certified copy of their national certificate as well as a testimonial. Successful applicants will be asked to sign a bursary contract with the SA Weather Service.

Meteorology Bursaries

Studies in meteorology involve an introduction to the subject in the form of a one-year Bachelor of Science “bridging course”, as well as the possibility of then going on to study for an honours degree in meteorology, with a post-grad certificate that qualifies them to do weather forecasting.
Graduates with a Bachelor of Science degree (three years) who have majored in relevant subjects including physics, applied mathematics, mathematics, oceanography, or specific meteorological-related subjects may apply for a meteorological bursary that will cover a one-year course during which they will study basic meteorology. They must at very least have completed mathematics on level 2 and physics on level 1.
Study will be at Pretoria University and the course will begin in February next year (2015).
Some successful graduates will be offered the opportunity to continue studying the BSc honours course in meteorology that will enable them to get a post graduate certificate in weather forecasting.

Bachelor of Science Bursaries

Students who have already registered with the university to study, as well as those who have already applied to the University of Pretoria to study for a BSc degree, may apply for these bursaries. Either a letter of confirmation or proof of registration will be required by the SA Weather Service.

Subjects specified are meteorology, oceanography, agrometeorology, air quality, atmospheric science and climatology.
Anyone with a Matric (Grade 12) certificate who achieved a C symbol for physical science and mathematics is invited to apply for a bursary. Those with the old “higher grade” certificate in both physics and mathematics may also apply.

Forecasting Internships

Graduates with an honours degree in atmospheric sciences or meteorology may apply for this bursary. However graduates must have achieved a pass in first year university level physical science and second-year university level mathematics. The course, which also starts in February next year (2015), involves a year’s internship to train in forecasting, and will take place at the SA Weather Service’s head offices in Pretoria.
Applicants are required to provide certified copies of their SA ID document, their Matriculation results, and academic records that will prove subject choices at university level. They will also be required to have a basic computer literacy level, and be capable of good interpersonal relations.

Candidates will be short-listed and only successful candidates will be contacted by the Weather Service.

Bursaries for Western Cape Students from Disadvantaged Communities

Students from disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape have until the end of this month (October) to apply to the Association for Educational Transformation (ASSET) for bursary & educational and financial support during 2015.

The support will enable them to study, and ultimately find jobs.

ASSET offers two core programmes, one that offers bursaries and the other that offers a learner development programme. Both of these used to be run by the South African Institute of Race Relations in the Western Cape but have been under the auspices of ASSET for the past 11 years. ASSET is a non-profit non-governmental organisation that does what it can to offer educational opportunities in the form of bursaries for Western Cape students from what are known to be disadvantaged communities.

The ASSET Bursary Programme for Western Cape.

Originally established in 1972, the ASSET Bursary Programme gives matriculants much needed financial assistance so that they can apply to study at Western Cape tertiary institutions. The Association is supported by donations and able to help about 500 disadvantaged students every year.

The bursaries themselves vary, and relate to all South Africa’s Skills Education Training Authorities (SETAs), which gives successful candidates an excellent opportunity to further their skills. Generally the finance offered will cover a portion of tuition costs as well as a budget for buying books. Many students then raise loans through the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to cover the costs of accommodation in hostels and the shortfall that is not covered by the bursary. ASSET is in partnership with NSFAS and so can help initiate and generate these loans.

As ASSET says in its website, this partnership enables them to offer loan packages “to cover their needs and to help more students than would otherwise be possible.” They also identify the fact that students who get bursaries are encouraged, if not forced, to take responsibility for a portion of the cost of their education. This is seen as an advantage.

Impact of NSFAS on Bursaries for Western Cape Students from Disadvantaged Communities

NSFAS is willing to give a 40 percent rebate to students who take loans and then pass all the courses that they take. Further, the loans are only repayable once the student who took the loan has been employed.

The Learner Development Programme

This programme has been developed to help learners who come from disadvantaged communities achieve full potential when they go to school. The key is that if they can do this, they are more likely to get access to some decent form of higher education and ultimately become employed.

Essentially the LDP aims to provide support, skills and content in the main subjects studied at schools so that the understanding and performance of learners will be improved. They also aim to help students improve their language skills and ultimately find a learning path that will result in a meaningful career.

Rather than offering financial assistance, this programme offers education, it is related to the ETDP SETA specifically in:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Maths literacy
  • Physical and life sciences
  • Accounting
  • Economics

Classes are held on Saturdays, and all the tutors are qualified subject specialists who are experienced in teaching their own particular subject.

There is also a Grade 11 programme that involves job shadowing, open days and motivational camps. They also have spring and winter schools and a number of other initiatives.

Go to ASSET’s website to apply for assistance.

Six Bursary Options Now on Offer From RCL Foods in KZN

Food giant, RCL Foods in Westville, KwaZulu-Natal, has six bursary options up for grabs this month. They are in the fields of marketing, finance, engineering and agriculture, and will give you the opportunity to get a job in these fields at RCL. Applications for all of these bursaries close on October 31.

The RCL Foods Bursary Scheme has been set up to create a “feeder pipeline” into the company’s Management Trainee Programme and it is a key element of their Talent Acquisition Strategy. RCL Foods Limited is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and incorporates a number of smaller Pty (Ltd) companies – Food Corp, Rainbow Farms, TSB Sugar RSA, and Vector Logistics. Their stated mission is to build a huge African food business that will create a value chain that is sustainable and offers “compelling” food brands. They boast a “one company” philosophy and have already achieved a market capitalization of more than R14-billion. They also employ more than 19,000 people.

The RCL Foods Bursary Scheme

RCL Foods has declared a commitment to its employees and their training, recognising that people are the most vital resource for the company and its continued growth.

The bursary scheme has been set up primarily to assist the children of permanent RCL Foods’ employees who want to get a recognised post-matriculation qualification. However they will also consider “CSI students” and “external bursars”, in terms of their equity policy. This states that the company will “promote from within wherever possible” and consider internal applicants before they review external candidates.

RCL Foods’ bursaries are available in all parts of the country and not just in KZN. They apply to several different Sector Training and Education Authorities (SETAs) including:

This makes the bursaries one of the best options for Grade 12 learners who don’t currently have the basic skills to find employment in these fields.

RCL Foods Bursary Options

There are currently six bursary options available from RCL Foods. They will enable successful applicants to study:

  • Marketing
  • Finance
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Supply Chain
  • Agriculture

All bursaries are for full-time undergraduate study that will result in a Bachelor of Technology or other degree. The bursary only covers qualifications that are accredited by SAQA. However the company will also consider post-graduate studies, particularly in areas where “scarce skills shortage” is recognized, although this will depend on the merits of each case, as well as fund availability. Only applicants achieving aggregates of at least 60 percent will be considered.

The funding of all bursaries is for one year only, although they will be re-evaluated annually and may be extended if academic performance is up to scratch. Bursaries cover registration, tuition and examination fees, as well as books required, and will be paid to the learning institution, not the student. Accommodation, clothing and other living expenses are expressly not covered. Successful applicants will be required to sign contractual agreements for the same period of time as their studies.

RCL Foods have a comprehensive Employment Equity Policy that has been set up to provide opportunities for a range of employees across the spectrum, incorporating people of all cultures and race, any background, either gender, and of all ages. The company is determined to equalize employee opportunities and erase all forms of discrimination. It will also make certain that there is ongoing consultation and engagement with employment equity committees regarding issues that relate to diversity in the workplace.

While these policies and strategies obviously favor the families of current RCL Foods employees, the bursary options available do provide opportunities for a small number of outsiders.

Fasset Seta for Finance and Accounting Services

Fasset (the Seta for Finance and Accounting Services) is continuously striving to introduce innovative interventions to address the scarce skills need in its sector in a very real way.

“Our Board is starting to think more broadly in terms of how we can influence skills development at a broader level. The Fasset bursary is a case in point. Since recipients of Fasset bursaries are available to the entire economy when they qualify, the Fasset bursary scheme does not offer a direct benefit to the Fasset sector. Our Board recognises, however, that Fasset plays a skills incubator role for the entire economy,” says Fasset CEO, Cheryl James.

Responding to the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande’s call to Setas in 2013 to supplement the shortfall in National Student Financial Aid (NSFAS) funding, the Fasset Board decided, in May 2013, to allocate surplus funds to a Fasset bursary managed by NSFAS.

Fasset allocated almost R70m in funding in 2013 and 1 014 learners benefitted. An additional R60m was allocated in 2014. “At this point in time, we cannot confirm the exact number of beneficiaries for the current financial year, as some learners still need to sign their Fasset bursary contracts, James explains.

She describes the process of identifying worthy bursary recipients as very efficient. “As soon as we had signed our Memorandum of Agreement in July 2013, NSFAS started identifying candidates at universities throughout South Africa, who met Fasset’s scarce and critical skills requirements,” James recalls.

Fasset asked NSFAS to identify learners, who were either in their third or fourth year of study and to give these candidates preference. Thereafter, if funds were still available, preference should be given to candidates in their second year. If any funding remained, bursaries would be offered to first year students.

NSFAS submitted its proposed list of candidates to Fasset for approval in October. “All of the candidates approved for Fasset bursaries are completing undergraduate B Com degrees in scarce or critical skills areas,” she informs. The amount of Seta discretionary funding that is available in any given year is determined on an annual basis and is based on Skills Development Levy income.

As a result, learners with existing Fasset bursaries must reapply for a Fasset bursary on an annual basis: “I would like to reassure learners that if they do well and were part of our bursary scheme in the previous year, they are eligible to re-apply, and will be given preference in bursary allocations in the following year.”

A number of Setas have responded to Minister Nzimande’s call for additional NSFAS funding and have also responded by offering NSFAS administered Seta bursaries. “However, unlike many of the other Seta bursary offerings, there are no strings attached to Fasset’s bursary. Beneficiaries are not required to work for Fasset, nor for any Fasset employer, in order to repay their bursary,” she assures.

Although Fasset bursaries are not linked to employment opportunities, James urges recipients to avail themselves of the myriad of opportunities available to them after they graduate. Many of these opportunities are posted on Fasset’s Facebook page.

“Fasset employers post learnership and internship opportunities on Fasset’s Facebook page on a regular basis. There are also opportunities to apply for Fasset-funded bridging programmes into employment. By providing some of the soft skills required for workplace success, unemployed graduates are transformed into attractive prospective employees. Placement rates for these programmes attest to this fact,” James observes.

The Fasset Board will hold its annual strategic planning session in July 2014. “By supporting our Minister’s appeal for additional Seta funding for NSFAS, we have been able to make a positive difference in many learners’ lives. Hopefully, our Board will approve another round of funding for NSFAS administered Fasset bursaries,” James concludes.

Recipients of these bursaries will be required to teach at a public school for the same number of years that they receive the bursary.

Qualified recipients of the bursary must request placement in a province of their choice. The provincial education department (PED) concerned will determine whether there is suitable post available. If there is not, the applicant may be placed in a PED that does have suitable vacancies. Please note that bursars cannot choose the school in which they would like to be placed.

Make a difference. Become a teacher.

The following must be read before making an application for a Funza Lushaka bursary in 2014

1. It only awarded to South African citizens. Applications will not be considered unless a certified copy of the applicants‟ ID document is submitted to support the application.

2. Applications must be made online.

3. It will only be awarded if ONE of the priority area specialisation subjects is included as a teaching subject in the qualification.

The priority areas are:

– An exemption, endorsement, or „Admission to Bachelor Degree Studies‟ pass at matric /Grade 12 level.

– At least a level 4 pass or 60% on the Standard Grade or 50% on the Higher Grade pass at matric level in the subject which leads on to the priority area/subject in which the applicant will specialise to teach.

– For students who wish to specialise in the Foundation Phase, a pass in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at Grade 12 level is required. In addition, a level 4 pass or 60% on the Standard Grade or 50% on the Higher Grade pass in the Home Language is required. If a student completed matric prior to 2008 when Mathematics was not compulsory, a student may still be considered based on overall good performance (Average of at least 50%).

– Students who wish to specialise in the teaching of Technology subjects, including Computer Applications Technology, and who do not have these subjects at matric level, must have a pass in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.

The student must have:

– passed all of the modules studied in 2013 or in the last year of study at the university.

– at least a 55% average across all the modules studied in 2013 or in the applicant‟s last year of study at university.

The student must:

– have at least 50% average across all modules.

Applicants must note that these are minimum criteria. Meeting these criteria does not mean automatic acceptance for the bursary. There are a limited number of bursaries available, and the best students will be selected for the bursary.

– On qualifying, bursars will be required to take up a provincial teaching position. Bursars will not be granted permission to defer the placement contractual obligation to continue with full-time studies e.g. B.Ed (Hons). Nor will bursars be granted permission to take a “gap year”. Applicants must note that provincial education departments will place graduate bursars in teaching posts in schools in which they are needed. Bursars cannot choose the school in which they would like to teach, nor can they apply directly to a school. It is also possible that bursars can be offered a placement in another province if there is no suitable position in the province of choice. To meet contractual obligations, bursars will have to accept the offer.

– The bursary is awarded for one academic year at a time. It is not automatically re-awarded. Re-award will depend on academic success. There is no automatic promise of support for 4 years plus 1 more year. On evidence of academic success, and pending the availability of funds, the bursary may be renewed each year until the recipient of the bursary has qualified as a teacher. Recipients of bursaries will be required to teach one year for every year for which they receive a bursary.

–  The bursary must be repaid if the recipient fails to qualify, fails to apply for a teaching post with a provincial education department for placement at a public school, fails to take up a teaching post with a provincial education department at a public school, leaves a teaching post with a provincial education department before the end of the contracted service period, or otherwise fails to meet a requirement of the bursary agreement. In all of the cases described above, the bursary converts to an interest-bearing loan.

– The amount that is repayable is the full amount of the bursary received under the programme, less one year’s funding for every year spent teaching at a public school. Interest will be charged at the rate determined by NSFAS from time to time, which is always less than the commercial rate.

– The Department of Basic Education prefers to use an e-mail or SMS to communicate with bursars and if you are awarded or re-awarded the bursary you will be expected to have an e-mail address and if possible a cell phone contact for SMS purposes.

These conditions are all contained in the bursary contract which all applicants must sign. When applicants sign the bursary contract, they are legally agreeing to the conditions described in the contract. Process for applying for the bursar in 2014

– Applications must only be made once students have been allocated a valid student number and have been accepted/provisionally accepted at their university of choice.

– All applications must be made online. Take note of the closing date. No applications will be entertained after the closing date. Students must apply online and submit supporting documentation to the university.

– After your application has been completed online, you will be prompted to make a printout. This will serve as proof of your application. Keep a copy for yourself, and submit a copy to the university where you have been accepted and where you will be registering. The copy submitted to the university must be accompanied by:

–  A certified copy of your ID.

– A certified copy of your academic results. For 1st year students coming out of Grade 12, this will be a certified copy of your Grade 12 result notification or Grade 12 certificate. For students already at university, this will be a certified copy of your academic transcript, which must include results for 2013 or your last year of study at university.

– Your application will only be considered once all these documents have been received by your university.

– Your university will inform you of the outcome of your application and you will also receive a letter from the Department of Basic Education should you be registered at a university.

– Please ensure that all information that you capture is accurate, and that priority areas that you capture are the ones you will specialize in. The academic year of study refers to the level you are studying e.g. B Ed 1 = 1st year, B Ed 3 = 3rd year.

NB. Your university may allow first time applicants who are not yet at university and who do not have easy access to the Internet to submit paper-based applications. Enquire at your university about this possibility.
