Limpopo student bursary application form 2014

Bursary application for students in Limpopo isn’t as straight forward as it should be. The reason is the limited number of FET colleges, universes and companies offering bursaries.
The real reason is the lack of businesses in Limpopo.
Limpopo although a large place it has very little industry and commerce that simply equals few colleges and companies offering bursaries in the area. If you are a student looking for a bursary application we would suggest you search the site for bursary applications in Cape Town, Bloemfontein, Pretoria, Johannesburg or Durban, if you are currently out of work, a bursary application to become a student at one of the many FET colleges in South Africa is a real opportunity to get a job. Most FET colleges only offer study loans and bursaries to students and learners who have a metric as a minimum.
We constantly try and keep this website upto date with the latest bursaries and discretionary study loans. So subscribe to our mailing list, on the menu on the right menu and we WILL send you an email every time a company offers a bursary, you will receive an email from googles feed burner you must subscribe to the list or you won’t receive the emails, good luck.

It is in this spirit that SACOB has pledged 67 bursaries that will be made available over 67 minutes on Tata Madiba’s Birthday – Thursday, 18 July.

Six bursaries — valued at a total of R300 000 – will be awarded for each of the 11 ICB Accounting Programme courses, while the remaining bursaries will be offered across all ICB Accounting Programme courses at the discretion of the college.

International programme Bursary 2014

What are Commonwealth Bursary and Fellowships?

The Commonwealth Bursary and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is an international programme under which member governments offer Bursaries and fellowships to citizens of other Commonwealth countries. The CSFP was established at the first Commonwealth education conference in 1959, and over 26,000 individuals have benefited.

The Commonwealth Bursary Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) is responsible for managing Britain’s contribution to the CSFP.

The CSC supports around 700 awards annually. Awards are funded by the Department for International Development, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Scottish Government, in conjunction with UK universities. The CSC also nominates UK citizens for Bursaries to study in other Commonwealth countries under the CSFP.

The CSC makes available seven types of award:

    • Bursaries for PhD research
    • Bursaries for Master’s study
    • Shared Bursary with UK universities in support of Master’s programmes
    • Academic Fellowships for staff serving in developing country universities
    • Split-site Bursaries for PhD students to spend up to one year in the UK
    • Professional Fellowships for mid-career professionals in developing countries
    • Distance Learning Bursaries for developing country students to study UK Master’s degree courses while living in their own countries

What financial support does the plan offer?
The Bursaries and fellowships cover most costs associated with your study/time in the UK. This can include, where appropriate, return airfares, tuition fees, maintenance costs, study and other allowances. The terms and conditions of each type of Bursary and fellowship vary.

What courses does the plan cover?
Commonwealth Bursaries for Master’s and PhD study are available for postgraduate study at any UK university which has a funding agreement with the CSC. Commonwealth Split-site Bursaries support candidates who are undertaking PhD study at a university in their home country to spend up to one year at a UK university as part of their academic work. Awards are not limited to specific courses, but candidates must be able to demonstrate that their proposed study will develop leadership potential (for candidates from developed Commonwealth countries) or have a development impact on their home countries (for candidates from developing Commonwealth countries).

Commonwealth Shared Bursaries are offered to developing country students who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK, for specific Master’s degree courses.

Commonwealth Distance Learning Bursaries allow developing country students to study UK Master’s degree courses while living in their own countries. The Bursaries are available for specific courses selected by the CSC on the basis of their quality and relevance to development.

Commonwealth Bursaries are also available for undergraduate study for citizens of the Falkland Islands, the Maldives, St Helena and the Seychelles only.

Commonwealth Academic Fellowships provide mid-career staff in developing country universities with the opportunity to network and update knowledge and skills related to their academic subject and responsibilities.

Commonwealth Professional Fellowships offer mid-career professionals from developing Commonwealth countries the opportunity to spend a period (typically three months) with a UK host organisation working in a relevant field.

Who is eligible to apply?
The eligibility criteria for each type of scholarship and fellowship vary. More information is available on the CSC website.

How and when do you apply?

What happens if your application is successful?
To help you prepare for your study abroad, we can provide information on the UK, and help you with specially-created information packs and pre-departure briefings before you leave for your studies.

If your Bursary or fellowship is awarded for study in the UK, you will be funded to live in the UK for the period of your study. During this time, you will be able to work part-time (no more than twenty hours per week), or full-time during the academic holidays. For more information on working while you study in the UK, please visit the Education UK website (link).

You will not be able to work permanently in the UK once your course is finished. You are expected to return to your country, where you can put your new skills and experience into practice.

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme 2014

The Funza Lushaka Bursary Programme is a multi-year programme that promotes teaching in public schools. Bursaries are available to enable eligible students to complete a full teaching qualification in an area of national priority. Recipients of the bursary will be required to teach at a school or provincial education department for the same number of years that they receive the bursary. Qualified recipients of the bursary can apply for appropriate public school positions with the provincial education department (PED) of their choice. The PED concerned will determine whether there is a suitable post available. If there is not, the applicant will be offered employment in a PED that does have suitable vacancies.

Admission criteria:
The bursary is only awarded to South African citizens. Applications will not be considered unless the applicant has a valid South African ID number. Applicants for the bursary must already have been accepted into an appropriate study programme at a recognized higher education institution. Applicants also need to meet certain admission criteria of the institution and they must also meet the national selection criteria for the Funza Lushaka bursary.

Selection criteria include the following:
The applicant’s academic ability;
Eligibility for an approved degree or PGCE in one of the priority areas;
Commitment to a teaching career, which includes: interest in working with young people; enthusiasm for a professional career in teaching; readiness to face and surmount difficult challenges and personal integrity;
Commitment to teach in any school to which a student may be appointed by a PED.
Everything else being equal, selection should favour candidates from rural areas, candidates who wish to teach in rural areas and candidates whose financial position would otherwise exclude them from enrolment for a teaching qualification. The bursary will only be awarded if one of the priority area specialization subjects is included as a teaching subject in your qualification.

Please note that those who already have other teaching qualifications do not qualify for this programme.

Programmes to be funded
Three types of qualifications can be funded. These are shown in the table below. The qualification must include subjects which will allow the student to specialise as a teacher in at least one priority area (see next section below).

Undergraduate studies
Undergraduate studies
Graduate studies
4-year Bachelor of Education degree (B Ed), specialising in Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3), Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 6), Senior Phase (Grade 7 – 9) and FET Phase (Grade 10-12). 3/4 -year Bachelors degree e.g. Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Technology in fields suitable for admission to the one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Application for funding for a Bachelors degree implies that the applicant commits to enrol for the PGCE upon completion of the undergraduate degree. One-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) for graduates whose degrees include majors in priority areas.

In addition to specialising in a priority area, you will also need to specialise in a phase for the B.Ed and PGCE teaching qualifications. If you prefer teaching younger children, you could specialise in Foundation Phase (Grade R – 3) or Intermediate Phase (Grade 4 – 6).On the other hand, if you prefer teaching older children you could specialise in Senior Phase (Grade 7 – 9) or FET Phase (Grade 10 –12). Some universities offer qualifications which combine specialisation in the Foundation Phase and Intermediate Phase, or the Intermediate Phase and Senior Phase, or the Senior Phase and FET Phase. These combined qualifications are also acceptable.

How to apply
You need to apply for admission to a teaching qualification (B Ed or PGCE) or a Bachelors degree (e.g. BSc, B Tech, BA) with at least one major course in a priority area at a university of your choice. Once you have gained admission at a university, you are required to apply for the bursary via this Internet website.

The bursary is awarded for one academic year at a time and, on proof of academic success, the bursary may be renewed each year until the recipient of the bursary has qualified as a teacher. The bursary holder will be required to re-apply by the end of October for the following year. Recipients of bursaries will be required to teach one year for every year for which they receive a bursary.

What the bursary covers
Funza Lushaka bursaries cover all the recipient’s essential expenses. Expenses covered include tuition, full accommodation including meals, books and learning materials, and a small allowance for monthly living expenses. Universities have different cost structures, so the total value of a bursary differs from institution to institution.

Conditions for repeating a year
The bursary period may be extended to cover one additional year in a degree programme, or the time required for completion of one additional course in the PGCE programme. Only one such extension will be granted. Any additional time required will be at the recipient’s own cost. The bursary is renewable for one academic year at a time. On proof of academic success the bursary may be renewed each year until the recipient of the bursary has qualified as a teacher.

Conditions for repayment of the bursary
The bursary must be repaid only if the recipient fails to qualify, fails to apply for a teaching post with a PED at a public school, fails to take up a teaching post with a PED at a public school, leaves a teaching post with a PED before the end of the contracted service period, or otherwise fails to meet a requirement of the bursary agreement.
